One of Our Favorite Places (And We May Be Biased)
Located in Williamson County and about 30 miles northwest of Austin is Liberty Hill. Found between the north and south forks of San Gabriel River, it’s home to almost 4,000 residents, and one of the fastest-growing communities in the Austin metro. This community attracts residents due to the highly acclaimed schools, Texas Hill Country beauty, and affordable living all while offering a short commute to the city. Homes in the area are built by award-winning builders. Liberty Hill’s values are family, faith, community, and local business.
Liberty Hill started as a small ranching and farming village in the 1840s. The first settlers built their homes, then a church that functioned as a school too, and a local store. The first post office was created in 1853, only three miles west of its current location. Soon after, William Oliver Spencer was named the postmaster. Spencer was the one to suggest calling the community Liberty Hill. In 1999, the city was incorporated as the City of Liberty Hill. The city boundaries include two square miles with a historic downtown area.
